A Fresh Start
By Pastor Andrew White
There’s something wonderful about a fresh start in life. Whether it’s a new job, moving to a new city, starting University or college, or even a total lifestyle change. It’s a time of excitement sometimes mixed with a little trepidation. Will everything work out? Am I going to be a success? Have I done the right thing?
Some people find it daunting and feel unsure whether they will ever settle in. What if I don’t make friends, what if my life becomes isolated and lonely? Can I make it through this time of transition?
I think we should try to take a positive approach about new things in our lives. Change can be difficult but it can bring us into the next stage of our lives. A fresh start can be and should be a real time of great expectations and high hopes. I remember at school when I had finished a workbook the feeling I used to get when the teacher handed me a new book. This time I was going to do things right, this time there would be no mistakes. I was determined that this fresh start in my work was going to be my opportunity to prove that I could do things properly.
What if our lives could be like that new workbook? A blank canvas with no history of mistakes and failures. The problem with just starting a new page in life or even a new chapter is that as we look back over the previous pages we are reminded of how messed up it really was. How our best just did not seem good enough. You see our past can condition us for our future. We can develop attitudes and mindsets that subconsciously drive us towards the same mistakes and behavioural patterns that got us to where we were needing a fresh start.
We know that simply being more determined and making fresh promises wont really bring lasting change. For a while we will be able to improve on our previous effort, but somewhere along the way much like me as a student with my new workbook we will make a mistake and experience that same feeling of well what’s the point.
There is hope for you. If your seeking to make fresh start in life for what ever reason I can tell you today things can get better for you. The truth is you do have a bright future ahead of you and life can be more amazing than you have ever dreamed. We so often limit ourselves because we know, even if no one else does, that we make mistakes in our life.
The secret is to understand that you where made to be this awesome person with a wonderful life that is worth living and full of potential. We just need help to reach that potential. No matter how hard we try we cant do it by ourselves. There’s not a self-improvement course or mentoring program that can give you a fresh start. You and I need to go to the only one who can truly bring change to our lives.
The one with all the answers is your Heavenly father. He is your creator. He knows all about you. In the Bible there’s a book called Jerimiah and in the twenty ninth chapter and the eleventh verse it says I will bless you with a future filled with hope--a future of success, not of suffering.
So God has a good plan for you and he has the power to make that plan a reality. We must let God work in our lives we must give Him an opportunity to help us.
He is so willing to transform your life he just needs you to invite Him to take your life and give you a fresh start. I’m not talking about a religion or a set of rules I'm talking about coming home to your Heavenly father. You may be along way away from your natural family and home but you are closer than you think to your Heavenly father and oh how he loves you, oh how he cares for every aspect of your life. He sent Jesus to this world to take away all your guilt and pain to bring you hope, help and healing. At Victory Gospel Church we say to people week after week welcome home. People from over 55 nations of the world gather each week to experience the love and power of the living God. It’s truly amazing to see individuals reaching there full potential and watch as people like you and me step away from there past and learn what it is to have a fresh start.
